Frequently Asked Questions


		Will kidsMEDPACKS fill all of my child’s medications?

		Yes. kidsMEDPACKS will pre-package all medications in pill form, including vitamins. kidsMEDPACKS can also fill liquids, ointments and inhalers. The only exceptions are Accutane and injectables such as Insulin, Epipens, and Growth Hormone and medications such as Tylenol, Lactaid, Motrin and Benedryl that camps typically stock. Please refer to your camp letter to determine which medications must be processed through kidsMEDPACKS.

		My child’s prescription is for half a pill, will it be dispensed that way?
		Yes.

		What if my child’s medications are usually refilled during the summer?

		Prescriptions with refills will be maintained by the pharmacy and sent to the camp before they are due. If your camper is staying for more than 30 days, please confirm that your physician has written the prescription with a refill or if it is for a Controlled Medication that you are sending 2 separate prescriptions.

		Will kidsMEDPACKS accept my insurance plan?

		Yes. Our pharmacy accepts most insurance plans. If the pharmacy does not accept your insurance or is unable to obtain pre-authorization, then kidsMEDPACKS will notify you. You will be responsible only for co-payments, deductibles and any over-the-counter requests not covered by your insurance. If you have an insurance change, please email your updated insurance information to us in order to avoid charges for the full cost of medication.

		I have a 90-day prescription plan; will kidsMEDPACKS be able to fill my child’s prescriptions?

		The pharmacy will dispense a 30-day supply of medications at one time. If you have a 90-day prescription plan, please do the following: If you require a refill before camp, count the number of days your camper will need medications at home before camp and request only that amount needed at home. Call your insurance plan to notify them that your camper will need medication dispensed by the kidsMEDPACKS' pharmacy and request a “summer/vacation override”. This will help to ensure that your camper’s medications will be covered by your plan, excluding any co-pay you would normally be responsible for.

		What if I need to fill a prescription for my child before camp starts?

		You may refill your child’s medications anytime before camp, if necessary. In order to help ensure that medications for camp will be covered by your insurance plan, request only the amount of medication you need at home before your camper leaves. If it is within 2 weeks of your camper's start date, you must obtain a vacation override from your insurance plan. The pharmacy will not bill your insurance until camp commences in order to avoid conflicting with your insurance billing cycle.

		How are “as needed” medications packaged?

		kidsMEDPACKS will prepack “as needed” medications separately from those medications taken daily. Your child will go to the nurse for these medications when he/she needs them and they will be refilled only if necessary. Any unused medications will be sent home at the end of the summer.

		What times are medications dispensed at camp?

		Medications are typically dispensed at breakfast, lunch, dinner and bedtime. Any exceptions MUST be clearly written on the prescription by your doctor and indicated on the Medication Request Form (to be completed by parent). If a prescription is written “to be given daily" or "once a day” it will always be dispensed at breakfast.

		What if my child takes a Controlled Medication such as Adderall, Concerta or Ritalin?

		An *original prescription* must be sent to the pharmacy for all Controlled Medications. By law, kidsMEDPACKS’ pharmacy cannot accept a verbal order or fax for these medications. For campers staying for more than 30 days, you must provide kidsMEDPACKS with two prescriptions. Please provide your physician with the "Letter to Physician", which will explain how prescriptions for Controlled Medications should be provided.

		My child takes an over-the-counter multi-vitamin, do I need to use kidsMEDPACKS?

		Yes. Most multivitamins and nutritional supplements taken daily, prescription or non-prescription, will be dispensed by kidsMEDPACKS. Please refer to your camp letter for specific instructions.

		What if kidsMEDPACKS doesn’t stock the brand of vitamins my child takes?

		Our pharmacy carries most vitamins, specialty vitamins and nutritional supplements. Please contact us to see if we carry your brand.

		What if my child takes lactaid pills at meals?

		Lactaid pills do not need to be prepackaged with kidsMEDPACKS. Camps stock this and they are kept in the Dining Hall.

		Will the pharmacy dispense generic or brand medication?
		The pharmacy will dispense generic medication unless otherwise noted. For over-the-counter medications, you must indicate “Brand Only” on the Medication Request Form. For prescription medication, your physician must write “DAW”, “Brand Only” or “Do Not Substitute” on the prescription. You may incur a higher co-payment for "Brand Only" medications.

		When do I need to register with kidsMEDPACKS?

		You MUST register and send completed information 30 days prior to the start date of your camp. Any information received AFTER the deadline date will be subject to a late fee to expedite processing and shipping.


		*What if my child is placed on a prescription or non-prescription daily medication after* the deadline date to register and submit prescriptions has passed?**

		kidsMEDPACKS will accept late registrations. We understand that late medication changes do occur and kidsMEDPACKS will be able to process your order. A late fee will apply.

		If I have a refill on file with my local pharmacy or mail order pharmacy do I need to send you a new prescription

		Yes, we cannot process the refill you have at your pharmacy. Please obtain a NEW prescription to send to us.

		How much does kidsMEDPACKS cost?

		The registration fee for the entire summer is $55 per camper. This includes the cost of packaging and shipping all of your child’s medications directly to camp. The cost of the medication will be processed through your insurance and billed directly from the pharmacy. You are responsible for any co-payments and the cost of non-prescription medications.

		When will the pharmacy bill me for my camper's medications?
		Our partner pharmacy will not bill you until camp commences. You may not receive a charge n your credit card until AFTER your camper returns home. Please notify us if your credit card information changes during the summer.
